Advisory Council
A Message from the Chair of the Advisory Council – Allan Shaw
The Advisory Council was established to provide industry expertise from all sectors to inform the program and a formal mechanism for Employer Partner input and engagement in the MBA program. The Council has committed to focusing on the following:
- Integrate the expectations of both students and organizations.
- Provide opportunities for students to distinguish themselves.
- Support the development of Employer Partners who will invest in the student.
- Work with faculty to ensure that course material is relevant and practical and meets organizational needs.
The success of the Corporate Residency MBA program continues to grow. During the first two years of the program 100% of the MBA students were placed in relevant and
challenging corporate residencies. The corporate residencies are a core component of this program. Therefore, Employer Partners are critical to our success. We are fortunate to have Employer Partners from every sector and Employer Partners have expressed how extremely pleased they are to have access to a pool of pre-screened talented students. Our students are seeking a solid level of experience and the opportunity to demonstrate their value for longer term employment.
Organizations have experienced people and also need talented fresh ideas, a stable of new graduates who bring their knowledge, and their talents and perspectives. The corporate residency is an opportunity for them to position themselves as a new generation of leaders. Our students get involved, have an opinion and have a big impact on the organizations.
The Faculty of Management, which houses the Corporate Residency MBA, was recognized in 2010 and 2011 as the Most Innovative Business School in Canada. This makes our students distinct and able to tackle the complex challenges in today’s workplace.
I believe in this program, and we seek commitment and improvement through the involvement of our Employer Partners.
